Air Fryer Cornbread Recipe With Expert Tips

The world has embraced thousands of bread recipes, whose ingredients vary across each country and religion, to deliver amazing aromas that suit local tastes. And among them, cornbreads definitely rank high in the popularity chart, recognized by the crusty texture and strong flavors!

Most importantly, these dishes are super easy to make in air fryers. Regardless of your baking and cooking experience, mark our words that it only takes very little time to make a full-fledged air fryer cornbread!

Can You Make Cornbread In An Air fryer?

Yes, why not? Remember that air fryers do not just have the “air frying” functions; modern models have incorporated various other cooking capabilities, including toasting, baking, slow cooking, and more! You can even process a whole party in one single air fryer – let alone some small batches of cornbread.

Air fryers are known to use very little oil while still delivering an impeccable, uniform texture that melts under your tongue. Not to mention, higher-end fryers take almost no time to preheat, saving you an insane amount of time.

Ingredients

Really, you barely have to prepare anything. We are not surprised if some of these ingredients have already been stored in your refrigerator or cupboards!

  • Jiffy Corn Muffins Mix (about 8.5 oz)
  • Egg (1)
  • Milk (1/3 cup)
  • Oil spray

How to Make Jiffy Cornbread in Air Fryer

Step 1

Combine egg, milk, and your corn muffins mix. Do not overmix them – just enough to ensure no dry spot is left. A critical tip to remember – or the rest of your process will be ruined!

Step 2.

Coat the baking pan lightly with some oil spray. Once done, fill it with batter.

Step 3.

Air-fry it at 315-320°F for 15 to 20 minutes – or till you insert a toothpick in the middle and it comes out 100% clean.

What if the toothpick still looks not fully clean after 20 minutes, but the cornbread edges are crisp? We suggest turning the heat off and leaving your dish there for 10 minutes. The remaining heat will keep processing the cornbread for you.

Step 4.

Allow your cornbread to cool down on the pan. Released air will escape from all sides, making it super easy to cut/slice them for later enjoyment.

Extra Notes to Guarantee Your Success:

  • Use bucket pans that are light and thin – yet still deep enough for at least one volume of jiffy cornbread mix. Do not hesitate to try out several options at the shop until you end up with one that suits this description!
  • Again, we must warn you against overmixing the cornbread – unless you want it to grow tough and dry!
  • A silicone or rubber spatula is highly recommended for this task, as you can easily use them to scrape the bowl’s sides during mixing. Not only will it give you terrific whisks, but there will also be no important ingredient left out of the mixture.
  • Though the Jiffy boxes recommend “Use Milk,” feel free to try out heavy cream or buttermilk as substitutes. Your cornbread will turn out more moisturized and delectable.
  • Ensure all the pan sides are properly oiled to prevent the cornbread from sticking.
  • Hot cooking is not the same for every air fryer model. Hence, use toothpicks to check the cornbreads every few minutes; if they come out wet, the best bet is to cover your dishes with foil – which wards off any potential burning and drying issues. Continue heating until all surfaces are thoroughly done.

How to Make An Air Fryer Conbread Without A Pan?

Here are easy steps to make your cornbreads without using pans:

Step 1

Grab some silicone cups for muffins. Though optional, we suggest spraying them to keep the sticky batter away.

Step 2

Fill these silicone molds – not 100% full, though, since the cornbreads will rise during the cooking process anyway. Only about 3/4 is enough unless you want the batter to spill over all sides.

Step 3.

Fill in the liners (how much depends on the air fryer size). Since the molds are quite small, their cooking will be much faster than full-pan batters. Never leave your eyes off them!

Cover the cornbread with tinfoil if it looks golden on the top but still feels wet inside. Otherwise, skip the foils in case the cornbreads are already cooked through without burns.

How Long to Cook Cornbread In The Air Fryer?

16 to 17 minutes is the common timeframe for most air-fryer cornbread made using pans. Non-pan cooking might be a bit faster than that due to the significantly smaller batches.

Regardless of which method you choose, we recommend covering the bread with tinfoils after 10-12 minutes to keep their tops from burning.

What if, for some reason, you cannot calculate the time needed? (there’s no mobile phone or clock around, by illustration).

In these cases, sticking toothpicks into the cornbread’s middle is the best way to confirm its doneness. Zero crumbs or stains on the toothpick indicate your dishes are ready; meanwhile, some batter left on it means you must wait a bit longer.
